VIKING FURY, 2nd ed.is a strategic level solitaire game covering the initial Viking expansion into western Europe in the late 8th-early 9th century. The player controls the Viking side and attempts to acquire treasure for his home location, while potentially planting new settlements across the sea. Each game turn represents a variable amount of actual time. The object of the game is to bring as much treasure back home to Scandinavia (and establish settlements over the sea) within a set number of Expeditions. Play time typically is around 45 to 60 minutes per scenario. You may play VIKING FURY in two ways: physical play and pencil-mode. Physical play will involve scanning the map and counters to make your own physical components to use. Or, you can lay the book flat, with the scenario map you are playing and its facing Reference Sheet page spread out before you, and use scanned counters to move on the map. Pencil-mode essentially is a component-less experience, where you make notations on the game map, writing in (and erasing) game play movements and events on that map. Special maps for use in pencil mode are provided for each scenario. While the game was designed for solitaire play, optional rules show how to play with two or three gamers.Scenarios include Raid on Lindisfarne, European Coast Invasion, Raid on Iona, Campaign games, plus an introductory scenario (with simpler rules) for young or new gamers.VIKING FURY, 2nd ed. emphasizes playability as well as historicity, and tells the great, overarching story of Viking expansion into the British Isles and Western Europe.
